Original hand drawn and painted brooche pin badge art by Mel Stringer
I can not get enough of Mel’s work.
Make sure you check out her multiple web bits: Her site, on flickr, her blog and her shop. Every single page of every single one of these places is worth your eyeball time.

Here’s a fun idea from Susie Ghahremani of Boy Girl Party – order a custom illustration designed to your specifics. Answer a series of questions for Susie to narrow it down and get your own personal B G Party original. What I like about this idea so much is that it takes advantage of the wonderful communication tool that is the inter-web. Makes me want to think of ways to do something similar.

Lili Scratchy – so good! I can’t say any more because I am practicing my new “computer off by 9.30pm” rule and it’s 9.34… but do check out her blog and all the wonderful stuff that goes on there. (via the equally wonderful Misako Mimoko).

…the flickr world of artist and illustrator Virgin Honey! She’s a little bit Elsita, a little bit Nathalie Lete, a little bit J Otto Seibold… sort of… and entirely unique. I could hardly chose a photo, there are so many goodies.

Back when I was reading (slightly obsessively) the Twilight books, I stumbled across a comic which summarised the saga neatly in 16 panels. Having only read the first two books, I let myself read the first 8 panels but then quickly clicked away before I ruined the rest of the story for myself. Last night I remembered it and took some time to track it down again. It had appeared on one of those tumblelogs that doesn’t credit anything, and just leaves a trail of “via” links so it took me some time. Finally I found it only to be delightfully surprised that it was drawn by one of my new favourite comic authors, Lucy Knisley.
I read her lovely French Milk recently. The comic journal about her six week visit to Paris is so full of food and art and places and family and her quirky sense of humour that I couldn’t not love it. Discovering that the Twilight comic was hers was a serendipitous delight – because it led me to her Art Journal and all her other comic fabulousness. She makes me want to draw comics again.
Don’t miss My Lost Weekend in the Meyer - Lucy’s Twilight experience but beware: Twilight spoiler alert

(this was so me too, but fortunately I had friends throwing the books at me)

The work of Souther Salazar actually makes my heart ache just a little.

These are older works but he has a show coming up in New York on May 16th, 09 at Jonathan Levine Gallery.

It would be wonderful to be in Tokyo this month to see Seonna Hong’s solo exhibition, Viscery Loves Company, at KaiKai Kiki Gallery. She and I share a thing for Mary Blair (along with everyone else I guess). I have loved her work for so long but these latest images take my breath away. I have a lot of trouble working out which one is my favourite (because I play that game, you know, “If I was incredibly rich and quick off the mark, which one would I hang above the mantel so that I could stare at it every day?”). I think it might be “Mix Tape” (below). Eric Nakamura has a great set of photos from the exhibition on Flickr so we can all squint a little and pretend we’re actually there.
